trx ram 0-60

Trx Ram 0-60 - Left foot on brake. Hard. Because you have to stop the 702-hp, 650-lb-ft supercharged Hellcat V-8. Right foot towards the ground. The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX has launch control, complete with adjustable launch rpm, but it's not really a factor on high-grip paved surfaces. After the engine revs up quickly, let go of the left foot, and the resulting TRX does the first of many things to surprise us: sprint to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, then pass the quarter-mile at 110 mph in 12.3 seconds. . That makes the monstrous TRX the fastest pickup truck we've ever tested, and it's just 0.3 seconds faster than the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk to 60 mph, despite the big ramen weighing 1,600 pounds more.

Welcome to the TRX Wild World, created by Ram by taking our favorite 1500 full-size pickup, swapping in a 6.2-liter Hemi, widening the frame and fitting it with adaptive Bilstein dampers to give it serious off-road capability. Knobby Goodyear Wrangler Territory All-Terrain tires manage more than a foot of suspension travel (13.0 inches in the front and 14.0 in the rear to be exact). Offering a rear-wheel drive mode to quickly fire up a set of rear tires seems in keeping with the TRX's over-the-top demeanor, but its two-speed transfer case is all-wheel drive at all times, offering only 4WD Auto, 4WD High or 4WD Low settings.

What's surprising about the massive TRX—it's 3.3 inches longer, 5.9 inches wider and weighs about 1,100 pounds more than the Ram 1500 Crew Cab on which it's based—is how well it behaves on paved roads. Confident build-up in steering effort and reassuring on-road dynamics make this great pickup easy to maneuver even on winding two-lane roads. Sport mode lowers the dampers significantly, but despite the trailing suspension, there's none of the float or wobble you'll get in the TRX's main competition, the Ford F-150 Raptor. Maximum swing grip is only 0.70g, but the TRX lets you use as much as you want. The brake pedal has some initial squish and is quite squishy after repeated stops from high speeds. It posted a reasonable 189-foot stop from 70 mph. But from 100 mph, that distance increases to 418 feet and with a significant fade, despite the 14.8-inch front and 14.9-inch rear brake rotors.

The Hennessey Mammoth 1000 Trx Is The World's Fastest Pickup Truck

Although the 6,866-pound TRX has the strength and structural reinforcements to offset its heaviness, there's a serious fuel economy penalty to pay. EPA figures of 10 mpg city and 14 mpg highway, worst among all light-duty pickups, and among the least efficient new production vehicles ranks include the Bugatti Divo and Bentley Mulsanne. We averaged 9 mpg overall.

The crew-cab-only TRX pickup-truck-dome maintains all the usual Ram 1500 goodness, including an outstanding interior and a roomy back seat. Maximum payload is a claimed 1,310 pounds, but our well-equipped test car could only tow 934 pounds before exceeding the curb weight limit. And that's without the optional panoramic sunroof, which certainly degrades efficiency further. Towing is a strong 8,100 pounds; Take the Ram SRT10.

While the TRX's $71,790 base price may seem steep compared to the $55,150 starting point for the crew-cab Raptor, Ram is a relative bargain among all-wheel-drive Hellcat-powered machines. The Dodge Durango Hellcat starts at $82,490 and the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk starts at $89,165. At $89,365 as-tested, our test car was loaded with the $7,920 Level 2 equipment group, which offers all the goodies of the traditional Ram 1500 Limited model: heated and ventilated power front seats, leather upholstery, heated second-row seats, keyless entry, an upgraded interior, and more. $1,895 18-inch beadlock-compatible wheels, $1,295 in carbon fiber interior trim, a $1,095 head-up display and rear-view camera mirror, and $995 rack rails under the door sills (which aren't much use when riding boards. In the high-riding TRX).

Our example also had an optional $995 full-size bed-mounted spare under the cargo box, which meant we were carrying two additional 103-pound wheel-and-tire units—an extra excuse to take great chances. How can you not go for a whole shipment with two parts on board? We found plenty of excitement (and airtime) on the dunes of Silver Lake State Park, on the shores of Lake Michigan west of our home state.

Ram 1500 Trx Track Review

We won't try to convince you that the best place to experience the TRX isn't in the driver's seat, but outside while tearing around Silver Lake's 450-acre sandbox is a close second. Hellcat is a very apt name for the wake-the-dead scratches and cockles coming from the TRX's tailpipe. We also put three or four feet of air under the tires and jumped easily. Activating the Baja ride mode lowers the suspension considerably, and despite its massive heft, it manages to stay quite composed when jumping over big hoop-de-dos as fast as we dare. The soft sand has a massive power-damping effect, making the TRX's 702 ponies feel less exaggerated than on the street. But the supercharged Ram has the honor of being the first production vehicle we've driven in deep sand with very little power.

We have to give Ford credit for ushering in this new era of high-performance off-road pickups, which ultimately inspired Ram to create a challenger to the Raptor's hitherto undisputed dominance in the segment. It also makes one wonder if the TRX produces more power than its Hellcat-based stablemates. But comparison tests and technical analysis aside, a short drive in the TRX is enough to confirm that the pickup truck excels in almost every way.

Ram has started holding media events for the much-awaited 2021 Ram 1500 TRX and one statistic is surprising. The 702-horsepower TRX crushed the competition with its 0-60 mph acceleration. The Detroit News reports that the TRX does 0-60 in an incredible 3.9 seconds. The speed surprised even Ram, who estimated the TRX would sprint from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds. The Ram TRX is the first production pickup truck to break the 4-second mark.

Dubbed a "beast" by some, the truck handled the terrain very well with a 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds. When it launched, Ram executives promised the TRX would smoke the competition, and they weren't kidding. Truck fans have been waiting for this massive horsepower truck since the TRX was shown as a concept in 2016. Designed to challenge the Ford Raptor, Ram promises the 2021 Ram TRX will be the fastest and most powerful mass-production truck on the market. The 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8 delivers 702 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. The TRX frame uses high-strength steel to improve durability and stability on and off the road. The HEMI V-8 is mated to an eight-speed TorqueFlite transmission. The TRX is 2" taller than other Ram trucks.

"The all-new 2021 Ram TRX sets the benchmark for extreme performance trucks and solidifies Ram Trucks' position as the leading off-road truck," said Mike Koval, Head of Ram Brand, FCA - North America. "Ram has a strong history of high-performance trucks, and the TRX expands the light-duty lineup with the segment's best combination of performance, capability, luxury and technology."

First Look: 702 Hp Ram 1500 Trx Takes Aim At Ford's Raptor

Other numbers emerging from early media events shouldn't surprise anyone. A 702 horsepower rocket requires a lot of premium gasoline to power it. Preliminary EPA-estimated fuel economy numbers give the 2021 Ram TRX 10 mpg in the city and 14 mpg on the highway. Combined fuel economy figure is 12 mpg. The old adage comes to mind, "You can't buy a vehicle if you ask about fuel." I'd wager that the numbers won't make or break the decision to buy a 2021 Ram 1500 TRX.

New fender flares widen the body by 8" and create an "hourglass" body that sets the TRX apart from other Rams. The TRX has a new two-way air induction system that ensures the engine always gets fresh air through the front grill, and the TRX has the largest air filter
